‘Fess Up Friday

The literate kitten has proposed this terrific idea of a weekly confessional moment all over the blog world where people talk about what they’ve written (or not) the week before. Mine is up in the page called “writing” — a page I update a lot more often than this one, by the way, in case you’re wondering what on earth I’m doing. (I also update that other page, the one about submitting, every day or so too. It’s not for the faint of heart because it is a chronicle of pretty much unrelenting rejection.)

I’d like to say, though, that in addition to revising The Secret War, and thinking up some new stuff to write, I’ve also written a blog post that is complete except for some illustrative excerpts from the book I’m talking about. As soon as I FIND the book (it was just here somewhere….), I’ll post that.

Have a lovely weekend all of you.

  1. My confession – I started my six-page paper on Freud last night at 10PM. I went to bed at 2 and woke up at 10 (way too much sleep considering my paper wasn’t written…). I’m almost done with my (awful) first draft, have 2 hours and 47 minutes until its due, and am reading and commenting on your blog instead.

  2. go ella! You rock. That’s a long and strong tradition of getting a good piece of writing out at the last minute you’re upholding there. xoxo, Lily

  3. Lily, you’re far too industrious to require anything like a confession! Honestly, you’re a daunting model of productivity! But I can’t wait to hear more about your Wallace Stevens project…

  4. Oh, I don’t know, Marie, some days I wonder if I’m just a hamster running around my little ferris wheel thing, and everyone’s just too kind to tell me that, in fact, what looks like changing scenery to me (I mean, a new version of my book, new stories, a second and third book) is just the same old thing.

Still, if it’s fun to run around one’s wheely thing, then one should.

  5. I have to hamster out 5000 words next week if I’m going to stay on schedule for my stupid proverbs book. Not looking forward to it. For something that is sometimes very fun and satisfying, writing is also an awful lot of slogging and revising.

BUT, I have to tell you, the comment you left on Yogi Berra last week put me in an entirely new direction and I think I’m finally making progress. So, thanks! Shall I send you a copy when it’s done?

  6. I just read part of your querying page–keep going, continue your bravery! I think it does take an Act of God–not only does our manuscript need to sing, it has to somehow strike a subjective chord in a random editor, and it has to fit the mien of the litmag. Whew! šŸ™‚

  7. Thanks Jade. Whew indeed.

Hey Ella, Hamster on! I’d love to see the proverb book. In fact, I’d be thrilled. I was just looking at your compendium this morning, and admiring those halos.

It actually is sort of fun as I go around and around. Fortunately, I have a strong stomach, which you need when you have to go over all your deathless prose in a month and make it better.
